Digital Banking Login Security Enhancement
A Simpler, More Secure Mobile App Experience
We’re enhancing the security of our Digital Banking mobile app to provide a safer and more convenient sign-in experience for our members.
As part of this update, the app will no longer use a separate 4-digit passcode. Instead, it will rely on your phone or tablet’s built-in security features (device-level authentication).
This change means:
- Stronger security
- Greater convenience
- One less passcode to remember
Important Update Information
This security enhancement was initiated by our Digital Banking app provider, Banno, and not by your device’s operating system.
At this time:
- The update is affecting Android devices only
- An Apple mobile app update is coming soon
- We will notify members as soon as the update becomes available in the Apple App Store
We appreciate your patience as enhancements are rolled out across all devices.
What Is Changing?
With the latest update to the High Point FCU Digital Banking mobile app:
- The separate 4-digit in-app passcode will be removed.
- The app will use your device’s built-in security instead.
- This includes:
- Face ID
- Fingerprint login
- Your device’s lockscreen passcode
You’ll use the same method you already use to unlock your phone.
Why We’re Making This Change
Modern smartphones and tablets now include advanced, encrypted security features managed directly by the device’s operating system, such as those provided by Apple and Android platforms.
By using device-level authentication, we can:
- Improve overall app security
- Reduce the risk of weak or reused passcodes
- Eliminate the need to remember multiple login credentials
- Support future app enhancements
This upgrade improves both security and ease of use.
Who Is Affected?
- ✔ Digital Banking mobile app users
- ✘ Desktop or browser-based Digital Banking users are not impacted
If you access Digital Banking through a web browser, nothing will change.
What If I Already Use Face ID or Fingerprint Login?
Nothing changes for you.
If you already use biometrics (Face ID, fingerprint, etc.), you’ll continue signing in the same way you do today.
What If I Currently Use the 4-Digit App Passcode?
You will no longer need to remember a separate High Point FCU passcode.
Instead, the app will:
- Use your device’s biometric authentication, or
- Use your phone’s lockscreen passcode
This replaces the manual passcode screen inside the app.
What If I Don’t Use Device-Level Security?
You are not required to enable biometrics or device lock screen security.
However:
- You will be automatically logged out after 5 minutes of inactivity
- You will see reminders encouraging you to enable device security for easier access
- You can still log in using your full username and password each time
For the best experience, we strongly encourage enabling your device’s built-in security features.
Is This Less Secure Than the Old 4-Digit Passcode?
No – this update enhances security.
Device-level authentication:
- Uses encrypted, hardware-backed protection
- Is managed by your phone’s operating system
- Reduces risks associated with simple or reused passcodes
- Aligns with modern mobile banking security standards
This approach is more secure than a standalone 4-digit in-app code.
Will I Be Required to Turn On Face ID, Fingerprint, or a Device Passcode?
No.
While device-level security is strongly recommended, it is not required.
Members who choose not to enable these features may still access the app, though additional login steps will apply.
Can High Point FCU Staff Help Me Set This Up?
Our team can:
- Explain the benefits of device-level security
- Provide general guidance
However, device security settings are managed by your phone manufacturer. If you need step-by-step setup assistance, please follow the prompts on your device or contact your phone provider for support.
